God Already Forgave You — Why Won’t You Accept It?

Shame is a word I never gave much thought to—until one day.
I saw this exact image in my mind: a boot pressing firmly on my head. And then I heard in my spirit, “I have already forgiven you. Why won’t you accept it?”
That moment was a turning point for this old girl.
You see, feeling shame isn’t always a bad thing. Shame can lead to repentance—it can act as a wake-up call. Just like when the prophet Nathan confronted King David, David’s shame led him to repentance and restoration.
But the danger comes when we allow shame to linger… when it takes root and holds us captive. That’s where we can become stuck.
That’s where we begin to believe the lie that we aren’t worthy—worthy of good things, worthy of love, worthy of the promises of God.
And the enemy loves it when we stay in that place.
Because from there, he can whisper lie after lie. And when we’re already feeling broken or unworthy, we start to believe them.
Today, I was led to the book of Luke.
There’s a story about a sinful woman who came to Jesus. She wept at His feet, washing them with her tears. She poured oil on them—an act of deep humility and love. Many around couldn’t understand why Jesus would allow this, because of who she had been.
But Jesus told a parable: Two people owed money to a lender—one owed much more than the other. Both debts were forgiven.
Then Jesus asked, “Which one will love him more?
” Simon answered, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”
And he was right.
Jesus then said, “Therefore I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.
” Then He looked at the woman and said, “Your sins are forgiven… your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”
So today, I want to speak those same words over you—the very ones that were whispered into my spirit years ago:
God has already forgiven you.
You only need to accept it.
He forgave you the moment you came to Him with a repentant heart.
He already set you free.
Now… it’s time to set yourself free.
You are worthy.
You are loved.
You do deserve the goodness of God.
And you have already been set free.
